While playing the game you should notice a screen in each characters personal menu that is entitled "Affinities". However, you also might not understand how this effects anything or just what it does. That is what this page is here to explain.

Basically Affinities are how well the two characters relate to each other and get along in and out of battle. The higher the affinity the better. Naturally some characters have higher affinity rankings with one another than they do with other characters, this is due in part to key elements of the story. However, you can also increase the Affinities of your characters youself through battling enemies!

When characters go into battle and work together, their Affinity will gradually increase. Doing so has one major benifit: more damage in combos. Combos will be greatly effected by the Affinity level of the two characters doing the combo. To give you a slight example of how this works, below is a small chart that shows which characters, by default, have the highest affinity numbers with a certain character.

Are you beginning to see how it works now? You'll notice that those who have high default Affinities together are the characters that have a lot of scenes together in the storyline of the game.

Now, Affinity ratings with combos. Here is a small scenerio to get you familar with how it works. Note that the damage numbers are just examples, they aren't the actual increase of damage. This will just be influences on YOUR gameplay. Let's say we have a party of four in battle: Yuri, Karin, Kurando, and Anastasia. Yuri goes to initiate a combo with Anastasia. They combo together, however, they only get 10 points of extra damage on the monster. However, if you were to pair Yuri and Karin together for the same combo, the damage would be amplified greatly, to oh, say, 30 extra points of damage!

With a combo of four it works much the same way. Yuri, followed by Anastasia, then Karin, then Kurando would only cause 100 extra damage. Put it in the order with Yuri, Karin, Kurando, Anastasia, you would get 200 extra damage! Starting to see how the Affinity with other characters incluences combos in battle? Of course, with four person combos you'll recieve a lot more if you put together all characters with great Affinities in a chain. It is up to you.

Through my personal plays through the game I have discovered the best team for a four person combo is Karin, Yuri, Kurando, and Anastasia. In that order, of course. You will do a lot of extra damage to your enemy because of all their high Affinities with each other. You know, since Yuri and Karin, Yuri and Kurando, and Kurando and Anastasia are the highest three affinity pairs in the game!
